Hypothermic storage of amphibian oocytes. How long can ovulated oocytes of the common frog Rana temporaria (Ranidae, Amphibia) be stored?

Currently, there is an unacceptably high rate of decline in the biodiversity of vertebrates, and, first of all, amphibians. This situation requires emergency measures to save the endangered species of these animals. One of such measures is the development of assisted reproductive technologies, including cryopreservation and cryobanking of reproductive cells (sperm and oocytes). However, cryopreservation technologies, successfully used for banking sperm, have not yet been adapted for cryobanking amphibian oocytes.

Storage of grass frog Rana temporaria (Ranidae, Amphibia) oocytes in a carbon monoxide and oxygen mixture under pressure

The development of a technology for hypothermic preservation of amphibian oocytes is one of the urgent tasks for cryobiology. The previously proposed method of “dry” hypothermic preservation in small sealed containers allowed us to increase the duration of refrigerated storage of unfertilized oocytes of the grass frog Rana temporaria up to 7 days (fertilization 40%; hatching 20%).

Demographic features of amphibians in a megacity (case study of Moscow City)

The study focuses on demographic characteristics of amphibians in a megacity environment, using Moscow City as a case study. The relevance of our research is driven by the impact of the urban environment on ecosystems. In Moscow City, home to over 13 million people, the urban infrastructure affects the natural habitats of amphibians. The study primarily examines the common toad (Bufo bufo) and common frog (Rana temporaria).

Comparative assessment of the impact of pesticide pollution on the cytomorphology of erythrocytes Bufotes viridis (Laurenti, 1768) and Pelophylax ridibundus (Pallas, 1771) (Anura, Amphibia)

A comparative assessment of morphological features of erythrocytes Pelophylax ridibundus (Pallas, 1771) and Bufotes viridis (Laurenti, 1768) living near the territory sprayed with pesticides was carried out. Multidirectional changes in the parameters of erythrocytes in the compared species were revealed, expressed in an increase in the width, area and volume of cells in P. ridibundus and a decrease in the values of these parameters in B. viridis.

On the issue of the thermal adaptation of the larvae caucasian brown frog Rаna macrocnemis Boulenger, 1885 (Amphibia, Ranidae) to low-temperature environmental conditions

The results of the study of hematological parameters of the blood of the larvae caucasian brown frog Rana macrocnemis and the total activity of catalase compared with adults and at different temperature conditions: at 23°C and after five days of hypothermia at 5°C. Differences in the blood formula were revealed in different periods of ontogenesis and under the influence of artificial hypothermia.

Rare species of amphibians and reptiles – candidates for the inclusion into the third edition of the Red Data Book of Tambov region

Five species of amphibians and five species of reptiles are recommended to the inclusion into the third edition of the Red Data Book of Tambov region. Their conservation status, distribution, main limiting factors, adopted and necessary protection measures are discussed.

Herpetological collection of the Zoological Museum of Tomsk State University. Communication 1. Salamanders (Amphibia: Caudata)

The history of formation and the taxonomic composition of the salamander collection of the Zoological Museum of Tomsk State University, opened in 1888, are analyzed. The history of the collection is characterized by two periods of active formation, namely: late 19th – early 20th centuries and late 20th – early 21st centuries. It is associated with the names of prominent explorers of Siberia, namely: N. F. Kashchenko, S. I. Korzhinsky, A. A. Kulyabko, G. E. Ioganzen, M. D. Ruzsky, V. P. Anikin, and S. M. Chugunov. It presents 14 species from 12 genera and 6 families of salamanders. G. E.

Amphibian Scientific Collection of the Zoological Museum of Saratov State University as the Basis for the Regional Cadastre

The characteristic is given and the taxonomic structure of the modern bathrachological collection of the Zoological Museum of the Saratov National Research State University named after N. G. Chernyshevsky is analyzed. Currently, it has 1903 specimens of amphibians belonging to 46 species of 13 families. The Ranidae family is the most fully presented one (43.3% of the total number of storage units). In total, the Ranidae collection contains 711 specimens of 10 frog species, of which 2 species (569 specimens) account for Saratov regional collections.
